It was published in 1970, by\u00a0<a title=\"Allen &amp; Unwin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Allen_%26_Unwin\">George Allen &amp; Unwin<\/a>\u00a0in the UK and\u00a0<a title=\"Alfred A. Knopf\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alfred_A._Knopf\">Alfred A. Knopf<\/a>\u00a0in the U.S., with illustrations by\u00a0<a title=\"Donald Chaffin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donald_Chaffin\">Donald Chaffin<\/a>. The first Puffin paperback, first issued in 1974, featured illustrations by Jill Bennett. Later editions have featured illustrations by\u00a0<a title=\"Tony Ross\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tony_Ross\">Tony Ross<\/a>\u00a0(1988) and\u00a0<a title=\"Quentin Blake\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quentin_Blake\">Quentin Blake<\/a>\u00a0(1996). The story is about Mr Fox and how he outwits his farmer neighbours to steal their food from right under their noses.<\/p>\n<p>In 2009, it was adapted into a stop-motion animated\u00a0<a title=\"Fantastic Mr. Fox (film)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fantastic_Mr._Fox_(film)\">film<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0<a title=\"Wes Anderson\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wes_Anderson\">Wes Anderson<\/a>\u00a0and included the voice of\u00a0<a title=\"George Clooney\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Clooney\">George Clooney<\/a>\u00a0as Mr Fox. The novel was also adapted into a\u00a0<a title=\"Fantastic Mr Fox (musical)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fantastic_Mr_Fox_(musical)\">musical<\/a>\u00a0in 2016, and an\u00a0<a title=\"Fantastic Mr. Fox (opera)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fantastic_Mr._Fox_(opera)\">opera<\/a>\u00a0in 1998 which in 2019 was recorded by the\u00a0<a title=\"Boston Modern Orchestra Project\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boston_Modern_Orchestra_Project\">Boston Modern Orchestra Project<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Odyssey Opera.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, Mr Fox appeared on a\u00a0Royal Mail\u00a0commemorative postage stamp.<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><span class=\"cite-bracket\">[<\/span>1<span class=\"cite-bracket\">]<\/span><\/sup>\u00a0Two audio readings of the novel were released, one with the author narrating, and another with actor\u00a0Martin Jarvis\u00a0narrating.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Fox is an\u00a0<a title=\"Anthropomorphism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anthropomorphism\">anthropomorphic<\/a>, tricky, and clever fox who lives underground beside a tree with his wife and four children.
